Official statement from the band reads as follows:

COHEED AND CAMBRIA, who have been in the studio working on their sixth studio album, have announced they will be touring this summer with IRON MAIDEN in the US and Canada as part of the “MAIDEN ENGLAND WORLD TOUR.” The tour will closely mirror, in terms of production and content, Maiden’s original 1988 concert video of the same name, shot on the “Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son Tour.” Coheed begins their stint on the MAIDEN ENGLAND WORLD TOUR July 24th in Winnipeg and ends August 18 in Houston, with stops in Seattle, Denver, Dallas and Los Angeles along the way. Tickets go on sale March 2nd and 3rd.

COHEED AND CAMBRIA will also be appearing at this years Hangout Festival in Gulf Shores, AL with Jack White, Wilco, Skrillex, and many more. http://www.hangoutmusicfest.com/

Late yesterday, Coheed lead singer, Claudio Sanchez, “leaked” an incredible acoustic version of the brand new song, “Sentry the Defiant,” to his fans on youtube , saying “Instead of making you wait until the album is released, I thought I’d share my excitement for this song with you now. I decided with this piece to video document it’s creation.” He added, ”This is literally the first time I played the song through in its entirety. His name is Sentry The Defiant.” The video has received 65,000 plays in less than 24 hours and seems to be spreading. The band is also giving away a free download to the audio of the song on their website, www.coheedandcambria.com

Welcome home, Josh Eppard.

Any Coheed fan can tell you just how great a role this band plays in their lives, and each story will be slightly different from the last. Be it the music or the mythos, something always hits home in a unique and irreplaceable way. And that’s pretty magical.

For me, that magic pinnacles in that good ol’, re-occurring theme

So when that little piece of music surfaced (after a bit of a hiatus) in “Eleven”, I immediately felt at home again. This, paired with the speculation of the return of Weerd Science himself, only tripled my excitement for what the band had in store for us. I was giddy as hell.

As far as the story goes, this song represents a passage of time. With that in mind, I suddenly realized how long I’ve been following this band. 5 years? Where did the time go? It seems like yesterday that I heard ‘Mother May I’ for the first time, or that I sat down to learn the Welcome Home solos. I felt nostalgic. But more than that, I felt inspired.

Noticing I never gave justice to this piece along my project of playing through the discography on guitar, it felt like the perfect time to learn it now. To acknowledge my personal journey as an avid admirer. To pay my respect to the group that motivates me to play music. To welcome back an old member of the Coheed family. The timing was perfect indeed.

Compiling old clips from various interviews and performances, I soon was left wondering: “how in the hell did this happen?” So I tried to imagine it through music, manipulating the melody and eventually the title of the song to further tip my hat to one of the most talented musicians I’ve ever come across (as well as the composer of the piece itself). This one’s for you, Josh Eppard. You inspire.

With that being said, I welcome with open arms, ears and heart what lies ahead.

And I’m so excited.

Accomplished & influential drummer Chris Pennie, founding member of Dillinger Escape Plan and current member of progressive rock acts Coheed and Cambria, and Return To Earth, announced today that he is exiting Coheed and Cambria. Pennie and the band cited “creative differences” as the primary reasons for the split after the drummer’s 4-year tenure with the band.

Pennie officially joined Coheed in 2007, replacing drummer Josh Eppard and touring extensively with the band internationally. He is featured on Coheed’s most recent studio album, Year of the Black Rainbow.

Pennie will shift his full attention to his most recent projects, acclaimed progressive metal band Return to Earth (Metal Blade/Bald Freak) and Fight Mannequins. Return To Earth is currently working on their third album after releasing their Metal Blade debut, Automata, in 2010. Fight Mannequins, Pennie’s music production company with Return To Earth guitarist Brett Aveni, recently completed their first documentary score and have produced two exciting artists whose albums will be released in 2012.

“I am very thankful for the times I shared the stage with the guys in Coheed and especially want to thank the amazing, supportive fans that I’ve met while on tour,” said Pennie. “There are a lot of exciting projects on the horizon in addition to Return To Earth and Fight Mannequins that I feel require 100 percent of my commitment and attention. I feel that this is the right time to make that happen.”
